Subject: Biaxin, Dilated Cardiomyopathy & Possible Kidney Disease

Well, the Carafate mixed with a bit of baby food worked for a little while but I think it's time to treat for Helicobacter and need to know if anyone here knows if it's safe to give Biaxin to a ferret with dilated cardiomyopathy and possibly kidney disease. I searched the archives and didn't find anything but did read elsewhere that Biaxin can cause problems in humans with kidney disease.
Sadly, our local vet has never heard of Biaxin and has chosen not to treat for Helicobacter (with Biaxin or Flagyl) even though it is strongly suspected. I'm hoping I can change the vet's mind if I arm myself with as much info as possible, including sharing my ferret vet books (though this has not worked in the past). Our other local vet has taken a leave of absence and there is no guarantee this one would treat for it, either.
Thanks in advance.
