Those are some very good questions. I'm surprised no one's answered yet.
Is there anyone out there who has any ideas?

Yes, when I first noticed there was problem, I did try an eye wash,
mostly to make sure what I was seeing wasn't some kind of discharge, but
nothing came out. I took a look with otoscope, and saw there was
something physically on the eye.

Went to vet early this morning. Doctor performed "Schirmer's Test" (I
found an explanation here,
http://health.allrefer.com/health/schirmers-test-shirmers-test.html it's
for humans, but I think it's still applies) as well as a "Florescent eye
test" (likewise,
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/imagepages/9330.htm).

The doctor confirmed there is a minor scratch on the cornea. His words
"no big deal". He gave me a triple antibiotic ointment to apply to her
eye twice a day. Any tips for putting the ointment in the eye?

He put an e-collar (made of x-ray film) on her, so she wouldn't further
irritate the eye. Being a ferret, she managed to take it off 20 minutes
after being home. I'll try to put it back on when she wakes up. Any tips
for getting it to stay on?

Thanks.
