If the ferret appeared to be aware then I would suspect fear.

Some things besides insulinoma that sometimes cause seizures in ferrets include but are not limited to:
canine distemper (more rare than it used to be thanks to vaccines)
rabies (very UNlikley)
meningitis (rare)
high fever
etc.

Your description sounds to me like the ferret was unaware, as happens with a seizure, but I can't tell for sure.
