My understanding of the rumor about melatonin causing
insulinoma was due to a vet using ketamine injections
which lowered blood glucose.
There is no need for utilizing ketamine as a sedative
for implanting melatonin... and the low glucose due to
ketamine administration should reverse once the
ferret is awake, responsive an eating again!
We have had multiple ferrets on melatonin for several
years NONE has developed insulinoma as a result of
melatonin implantation.
Of those with insulinoma at the time of implantation
-- NONE have gotten progressively worse!
just my 2 cents!
