We have a 6 year old ferret who had surgery to remove an adrenal tumor and a tumor
by her pancreas 3 months ago. (She has since developed diabetes.) She does not have
use of her hind legs. It does not stop her at all. What trips me out is when we lift her
back legs a little, and she takes off. It broke my heart when she first starting losing
use, but she has adapted well. We are doing several things to help her possibly regain
use - massage her hind quarters, lay her on her back and rotate her hips gently, and
put her in the tub with warm water. I noticed when we have her in the tub to clean her
up she really moves her legs. Neither of our ferrets like to have their hind legs messed
with, nor do they like being in water. We are not vets, nor do we know if any of this
therapy will work, but we are willing to give it a try.
