Subject: [ferrethealth] Using milbemycin for demodex
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Has anyone here used milbemycin (Interceptor or Milbemite) for
treating demodex infestations? I've seen that a few of you have used
Amitraz, but I haven't found much on milbemycin.

I understand from my vet that milbemycin and others in the ivermectin
family can occasionally cause neurological problems in some species of
dogs, but we haven't been able to find much on the risks in ferrets
when used at the dosage needed to treat for demodex. We're concerned
about using it on this particular ferret since she has already had a
cranial bleed, and may therefore have a compromised blood-brain
barrier.

Any info would be appreciated.
