Subject: [ferrethealth] Duralactin Feline observations
To: Ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

For all of you who have had difficulty dealing with chronic diarrhea
episodes, our eldest shelter kid Disney has been an EGE patient for several
years- she reacts terribly to pedia pred, we were in desperation giving her
amoxy which would work, then would not for lack of anything else. She also
was being given lactic supports for the ongoing antibiotic regimine to try
and help the gut flora-- NOTHING WORKED.

While I cannot be sure this is the solution we were informed about
Duralactin feline by a vet tech.. and we have started oral dosing with the
liquid 2 ccs 2 times a day. It is a last ditch effort so she does not
evacuate all her needed electrolites. It is only day 2 and there are no
miracles to report BUT instead of yellow watery projectile the stool is
slowly darkening and starting to congeal. It looks like this may be at
least a fix for an elderly gal with a chronic bowel condition who still
has the muster to pace the shelter and dive in the food bowl.

You may want to mention this to your veterinarians to get some feedback or
see if this is an option in simiilar cases. Just posted as a FYI in case
it will help another ferret!
