Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] prolapsed rectum--when is it ok to push back in?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

thanks to those who have replied--it turns out that Seti was
not actually prolapsed, although that might have been the next
stage coming. His anus is quite swollen and inflamed, but
everything that was supposed to be on the inside was still on
the inside. For those, like me, who have never seen a
prolasped rectum in person before, according to my vet in a
real prolapse there would be a tube-like protuberance. I
didn't see that clearly in any of the photos I was able to
find online.

So, he's on Preparation-H for the next week or so, regular
strength, 2-3 times a day. Hopefully this was a one-time
occurance, but if it becomes a recurring thing, we'll probably
put him on pediapred on the assumption that we're looking at
IBD. An ultrasound in late August showed that his intestinal
walls were normal and healthy looking, so it's hard to know
for sure. When he gets his adrenal(s) out, I may ask for a
biopsy of the intestinal walls at that time.

Seti's comment is: "you want to put what? where? that stuff
is cold! quit it!"
