Thank you so much for the information you provided. I wish now we had done
the bone marrow testing at the time of his initial surgery. Our vet did
mention it as a possible diagnostic test when we first took him in but as a
shelter we always have to be so concerned with cost that we decided to just
go ahead with the exploratory surgery and remove the spleen. He seemed to
do so well after the surgery that we thought we had the problem beat. I
feel like I failed Weasel but hopefully someone else can learn from this.
If we see another ferret with these symptoms (severe weight loss, severe
anemia, enlarged spleen) we will know what we need to do.
I'm going to pass this on to our vet. Thanks again.
