Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] HELP! - VET ADVICE NEEDED - Tigger passed away
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
Our beloved Tigger passed away quietly in my arms last
night. He was the first ferret in our shelter, rescued
from life under a bridge in downtown Seattle six years
ago.
We are uncertain why he died, but cannot afford a
necropsy (and could hardly bring ourselves to do it
anyway - he was a very special ferret to us),
especially in light of the nearly $500 it cost us this
week to get this far.
Two weeks ago tomorrow (Sat.) he had blood drawn for a
full blood panel. As of this afternoon (Friday), the
vet had not gotten the results back. We are
disappointed that such an important thing could not be
done quicker, in case there was something that could
be found to help him. We are no sure to blame for the
inordinate delay.
We also want an answer as to why he was given Imupran
when one of the contraindications is that it sometimes
led to pancreatitis, especially since Tigger was
diagnosed with pancreatitis. Seems it would have
exascerbated the problem, not helped it.
We are very sad today, and are now looking for another
ferret-savvy vet. Our long-time vet (Dr. Barbara Deeb
- contributor to veterinary textbooks) passed away
several months ago, and this vet clinic came highly
recommended. But there are a number of reasons we are
disappointed with this clinic and need to find another
in the Seattle-Tacoma area.
We appreciate any suggestions.
Michael
