Subject: [ferrethealth] A QUESTION FOR VETS
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I would like some feedback from practicing vets
regarding blood tests in ferrets.
On Saturday, September 24 (17 days ago), I took one of
our shelter ferrets - Tigger - in to a vet for an
exam. He was not doing wel, so the vet recommended a
full blood panel ($200+).
We were told the results "should be back" the
following Friday (30th) . They were not.
On Oct. 3rd I called again and were told the lab (in
Tennessee, via Ohio!) "only runs the tests once a
week" but that we should have the results back by
that Friday (Oct. 7). Tigger died on the 6th. That
Friday, the test results still were not done.
When I called Saturday (a full two weeks after the
blood as drawn), the vet basically told me it was a
university and that "everyone there is paid a salary"
so getting them to do their testing "in a hurry" is
something not to expect.
I was stunned.
So I have to ask: is this type of delay the norm?
Should I have been able to expect results quicker?
As of today it has been 17 days since blood was drawn.
STILL no results!
