Subject: [ferrethealth] Hind end weakness
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Hello. This post is again about my almost 7 yr old ferret Wish (aka Papa). He was diagnosed with insulinoma over a year ago, and has been doing fine on the prednisone and A/D mix. Although the A/D wet food has caused him to gain some extra weight. I've noticed in the last little while that he has a very hard time getting up on his hind legs to walk. Most of the time, he drags his back feet (back legs are still moving and trying to stand up) and is now losing hair on his tummy and toes from the dragging. He can sometimes get up and walk normally, but this isn't always the case. I'm worried that something is wrong with him that is making his hind end not work properly? Could it be his gained weight? My vet said that when a ferret is sick, it's common for them to walk the way he is. The one problem i've noticed coming from this is he can't seem to get to the litter box quickly enough and has an accident. ONLY because he can't get there quickly...not because he's losing control of his lower half. I just want to cover all the bases.
On another note, I've often wondered what a healthy temperature for a bath is for a ferret? What would be the best? Do they prefer warm, warm-hot, or cool. I always have bathed them in warm water, but they still shake and make faces at me to make me feel bad for putting them in the tub.

Please, if you have any information that has to do ONLY with either paragraph, please respond.

Anna, Wish(Papa), Gus, and Oskar.
