Subject: [ferrethealth] Need Vet Advice- Medicine Problem

Background: Podo, age 3, has always had a weak stomach and has already had her spleen removed at the age of 1.5 yrs old. Her stomach has been a constant problem over the past last year. She has been to the vet off and on for the last year and her blood values come back fine; there are no masses found in her body. Her vet is very knowledgable about ferrets and we cannot figure out what is wrong- the other 2 ferrets are doing great. I am trying to switch her over to a turkey based food, hoping that will help (before sick, she was doing well on it).
Within the last week, Podo began showing signs of not eating and lethargy.I brought her back to a vet (not her own- since the her vet was out of town for a ferret conferance). She lost approximately 4 ounces in just under a week. The vet prescribed Chloromycetin Plamitate and Carafate for severe weight loss and diarrhea. We have tried Flagyl, but she has severe problems with taking it (even the vet tried- could not get a drop in!).
The problem is now with the Chloromycetin, she is showing extreme signs of stress when giving it to her. She foams at the mouth, and urinates the minute I start giving it to her. After, she goes stir crazy for about 10minutes. I am afraid this is putting more stress on her. She is very tiny and fragile. I have tried mixing it with ferretone, but she is a smart girl. Should I continue the medication or consult with the vet for alternatives. Are there any? Please help, I do not think I can do this to her for another week. She is showing signs of getting better, but is no where near what she was pre-sickness.
Also, she wants to eat her hard food, and does not want gruel. She is eating well, but should I keep her on a bland diet or allow her to keep eating the hard food since it is what she likes?
