Hi Ann,
At one time I had to give my ferret, Noodle, metronidazole. He
absolutely hated it. I had crushed it and put it in a syringe with
pedialyte and let it dissolve. You could probably use plain water too.
He would really fight me when he knew it was time to take it - it was
quite a challenge. Have you tried using Ferretone or Nutrical when
giving it to him? I know it's a very nasty tasting medicine so I'm not
even sure that would work. Noodle is on prednisolone and I crush the
tablet into a syringe and then pull the plunger to suck up some plain
pedialyte. I give him a taste of the Nutrical before squirting the
medicine into his mouth and then he gets a few licks of Nutrical after
taking it. It goes a lot better that way. But like I said,
metronidazole is really nasty tasting so I'm not sure if Nutrical would
mask the taste of it. I hope you and your vet get something figured out.
There's nothing worse than watching a sick animal......it's
heartbreaking.
Good Luck.....Deb;o)
