Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Ferret too old for surgery?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
I'm sorry, I have to throw in my two cents.
I just recently had my 8 year old go through
surgery, he had his spleen removed. I had no
choice. I've had this ferret for it's whole
life, so I'm positive of the age.
He did just fine, recovered very quickly, and is
back to being a normal ferret.
While the older the ferret is, the more risk a
surgery, I personally would not allow age to be
the only reason not to perform a surgery. We
always determine the ferrets health before age.
Of the 40 something ferrets that have had surgery
in the last three years, we've only lost 5 during
surgery, 3 of which were to other health
problems. Most of these ferrets were over 4 and
5 years old.
