Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Melatonin Implants... ferret dead!
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

First let me say that I am very sorry for your loss.

I have to agree with Sukie. If you don't have a definite cause of death, implying the melatonin implant was the cause with that subject line simply because it was the last medical treatment that was provided could result in undeserved panic and reluctance to use a product that helps so many ferrets.

If you get a pathology/toxicology report that without doubt links the melatonin implant with her death, that would be different.

You said she came in with a huge belly (ascites?), no hair and was 7.5 years old. This is not a ferret that is the picture of good health, even if she acted normally up to the point of receiving the implant. I'm sure plenty of the readers here have experienced ferrets that were in seemingly good health go downhill rapidly and be gone within a matter of days.
