I lost a ferret back in March, just one day after recieving her melatonin
implant. She had previously been on a 1 mg tablet a day, crushed and mixed
into chicken babyfood. Brandy had other health issues going on at the time
though. She had anemia (unknown at the time) due to a swollen vulva that didn't
go all the way down after her lupron shot. She had bleeding under the skin,
pitechia (most likely to be from the anemia). Sadly, my vet insisted it was
just a rash. I don't know if she could have been saved at that point, all I do
know is that it had crossed my mind at the time (that the implant may have
played a part in her suddenly going down hill.) I do know that she bled
heavily from the implant site. The other ferrets barely had any bleeding. That
should have sent up a red flag for me. I regret not having a necropsy done. I am
anxious to see where this discussion leads. I am sorry for your loss.

Holly
