Holly, when a ferret enters anemia from an adrenal growth it is remarkably hard to bring it under control and a number of such ferrets die despite having a lot more done than just melatonin. If you look up

you will see how complex the approaches with a better chance of working get (and yes, they do tend to also include melatonin as one of the things used simultaneously).
