"Dilated" which appears in one of your first posts is pretty well the same thing -- thinner heart muscle and the heart size itself increased. It is seen with the most common form of cardiomyopathy, and I DID ask several vets and all said that they could imagine no mechanism for a dilated heart that would not involved undetected heart disease over time.

Heart disease is not always easy to find in ferrets. Hey, we've been there, and we know vets who have been there with their own cherished ferrets.

Obviously. That is why timely pathology is something I keep asking about because that would have been the only way to know for sure what happened to this particular individual.

It is also why I am spending hours upon hours looking up info on melatonin (as well as on Lupron) in relation to cardiac problems at a time when I also have more than enough on my mind and on my schedule with a aunt just recently passed away (memorial today) and a biopsy of my own part of my tongue coming up tomorrow (Thank goodness i don't smoke or I'd be freaked on that one but not smoking greatly reduces the risk of the two worst possible causes.).

So far, though, I don't find anything that is consistent with melatonin having been a factor here except for the time frame, and that could have been coincidence.

I do notice that Lupron usage could have been a concern for this individual. Was Lupron used?

Just because an individual doesn't agree with the premise at this stage of what is known doesn't mean that person isn't looking and listening both.
