Subject: [ferrethealth] Taking kits away from mum at 2-3 weeks of age?
To: "FHL" <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

I have been writing to somebody and she said that she likes to get kits at a
young age. She has one ferret and had him from a breeder when his eyes were
still closed. She said his eyes stayed close for nearly 2 weeks so I guess
the kit was 2-3 weeks old when she had him? She said she likes it that way,
there was no reason for the kit to leave the mother so young. The kit was
fed no lactose cat milk for 3 weeks.

Now this person is getting another 2 kits, same sort of age. I said
removing kits so young from the mother could cause (health) problems later
on. I don't know enough about the development of kits and what effect the
deprivation of their mother's milk has on them so I thought I ask here. All
I know is that it seems very wrong and a very bad idea for the kit.

If anybody has any experience or knowledge, please post, maybe we can help
this person "see sense" so please no flaming, just factual posts...
