Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] ADV test q''s
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

MC, they could have been true positives. Some known positives have shown up among at least 2 groups of NZ ferrets from two NZ sources who were imported to the Netherlands. They are known positives not only due to testing (including by UGA) but also by necropsy and pathology results.

Like Danee says, "If you don't test, you don't know." The question is if that lack of testing is what is happening right now in NZ. Remember that their own government would up berating itself for too many years between bTB testing at one point in recent decades, so that oversight can certainly happen. Recently, it has been spoken of in parts of Canada and the U.S., too.

BTW, ADV is well documented in some other nations but not called ADV. I remember someone who wanted her ferret tested in Britain (where it is a long documented problem still believed to be introduced to the wild and hence the environment by escaped imported American fur mink, I think, and that source makes sense in more than a few places) was told that ADV does not exist in Britain, so she tried some of the other names and when she got to "Hypergammaglobulinemia" the vet said, "Oh, yes, we see THAT.".
