I thought you would be interested to know that I heard from a vet off-list that animals' esophagae (esophageses? esophagi?) do very greatly with ancestral diet in all sorts of ways, and that ducks have especially thick and insensitive ones that deal well with whole fish -- scaled, gills, bone, and all.

Interesting.

I wonder if this does mean that dietary habits (food blotting, hard or sharp items) are connected with esophageal injuries which may set the stage for MegaE. Again, that is just hypothetical.
