We do know not all ADV pos ferrets are actively infected or shedding.
Thanks to Danee and a few others that had them tested regularly
with the Univ of Georgia, it seems some shed the virus, some are only
antibody positive not ever clinically infected, and some never get
the antibody/disease although exposed.
So, you could be lucky to have non-infected, but exposed, so antibody
postive
ferrets. You could have ferrets shedding but your ferrets are naturally
'immune' and not getting infected. I believe Danee has posted in the
past
a few of hers were PCR positive, shedding the virus that would shed for a
bit,
then not shed, then shed again. And depsite that some of her ferrets
never
became ADV positive.
We just don't know without the pcr testing, and one time test may not
reflect
anything without follow-up testing.
10 years is awesome!
It is great to know that first , ADV is not a death sentence. But at the
same time
we have to test to know where it is and to try to prevent exposure and
spread
of the virus.
