Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Taking kits away from mum at 2-3 weeks of age?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

ok Ulie I think that you have taken me the wrong way here about the kits getting them so young,The first one I got of the breeder was normal age of 9weeks or so then when I went to get another I was shocked when he put it in my hand and I asked are you sure it is ok taking them so young and casualy he said oh yes so not sure I took him and what I meant I raised him on was a formula for feeding underaged kittens or orphans from a vet as there was no stock in the pet store for the milk raising formula and was also eating mashed up kibble softened to a paste nearly and he sure liked it and yes his eyes were still closed and I did ask on here how old he would have been as I didnt know. Now as far as health If only I could show you a pic as he is the healthiest happiest fert you will fine he weighs normal well a bit chubby and his coat is so shinny.
What I meant was I didnt mind getting up and feeding my fert 4hourly.
I am hoping the next will be older and I dont need " ANY SENSE" put into me as I didnt ask for the fert so young and I travelled 3hours to get him thinking he was as big as the last so what was I supposed to go home without him after the trip all the way there,I am 30 years of age and have succesfully raised Kangaroos,Parrots,Wombats,Koalas and work for animal rescue and raising injured wildlife and orphans so I knew that I could succesfully raise my ferret and I DID
You have offended me here by not getting the whole picture.
An animal will only have problems when raising from a young age is by feeding. If you havent got the right stuff then it wont even live to grow up.
Colostrum, which if you dont know is the first of the mothers milk that contains all the antibodies that a youngen needs, and is a different colour than the milk a little, this lasts for the first week or so then it is just the mothers milk, now if an animal misses this it is not good at all and the chance of survival drops dramaticly.
I am a very experienced foster carer with animals so please respect that I know what I am doing and Kaizer was better coming to me than to someone who did not have a clue on how to feed him properly and yes I did enjoy raising him and didnt mind but as you have gotten this all wrong I am hoping on 2 new young ferrets but not at 2 or 3 weeks but if they are yes I will take them and do it all again happily and the man that sells them hunts rabbits with them strictly no pets there.
Hope this is clear before you have everyone up me on this site thanks......

I have been writing to somebody and she said that she likes to get kits at a
young age. She has one ferret and had him from a breeder when his eyes were
still closed. She said his eyes stayed close for nearly 2 weeks so I guess
the kit was 2-3 weeks old when she had him? She said she likes it that way,
there was no reason for the kit to leave the mother so young. The kit was
fed no lactose cat milk for 3 weeks.

Now this person is getting another 2 kits, same sort of age. I said
removing kits so young from the mother could cause (health) problems later
on. I don't know enough about the development of kits and what effect the
deprivation of their mother's milk has on them so I thought I ask here. All
I know is that it seems very wrong and a very bad idea for the kit.

If anybody has any experience or knowledge, please post, maybe we can help
this person "see sense" so please no flaming, just factual posts...
