In my opinion, any fur loss ( not just the tail end with black heads) is
adrenal.
The typical pattern is loss around the top of the tail spreading
over the back end slowly. usually blowing the fur the oposite
direction will reveal dry skin with definite fur loss and thinning
right over the back ( near tail)/. Can also be on both shoulders, tops
of feet and behind ears as other locations. To just general thinning.
I always use this as an example. I had a rescue come in, a pretty
little girl with the most gorgeous coat I ever saw. The story was
last year her coat was very thin with a lot of fur loss, but since it
grew
back the owner never had it checked out.
I told my vet the history adn scheduled adrenal surgery, he called
me to say he had his doubts looking at her current coat of fur, but in
surgery
she had the biggest adrenal glands he has seen, unfortunately bilateral
and the right was already growing into the vena cava.
I would have the ferret into a vet who does a lot of adrenals, and see
what
he/she thinks. But if no other cause of fur loss like an intact ferret
in prolonged season, fungus, fleas, etc,
then adrenal has to be top of the list.
