We haven't done a biopsy but we're suspecting IBD, or even specifically EE...we've switched his diet to the Hills z/d...the vet gave him a shot of prednisolone and we're thinking of starting him on daily doses of that.

~~ My Fonzi was diagnosed with EE after a long year of back and forth... I had him on a Venison and Green Pea diet, which I fully regret, although it had helped him so much. What I should've done was fed him a natural diet of meat, bones and organ with whole prey. I think it would've been better than that high-carb food. Along with Pred he got better quickly, I am almost positive it was a food allergy. He was just so sick when I 'adopted' him.

A few questions...He is just so, so thin...is there anything I can do to promote weight gain?

~~ One thing you can do is give him something he likes, in between meals. Try a beef/veal/turkey babyfood mix with a little water, ferrettone and maybe some heavy cream. Duck soup would be awsome, because you can control the fat content. Some places will give you fat trimmings for free. Then just add some turkey or beef, eggshells and ferrettone with olive oil.

Also, what is generally the starting dose of pred. ? Is it given in liquid or tablet form and how have people found administering it?

~~ I forget what I gave my Fonzi, I believe it was .2, but I cannot be sure. It was a long time ago. I gave it to him in the pediatric liquid form, he loooved the taste so much he looked forward to it every morning.

Also, he lives with my little girl ferret Bam, how do people (vets specifically) feel about the z/d as a general diet? She will happily eat it, the protein content is great but I'm worried that it might be a little low in fat. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

~~ I am really dumb, but is it a kibble-like food? I do not know specifically about that food, but I know if you put them both on a natural/raw diet it could possibly be better than putting them both on the prescrip. diet. If you do choose to feed the prescrip. as a main diet, I'd supplement with Duck Soup anyways.

I wish you the best of luck, EE was an extreme heartbreaker for me and my Fonzi.
