Subject: [ferrethealth] Benjamin very sick, time to let go?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Our 5 1/2 year old Benjamin, was diagnosed with Lympho about 3 years ago and adrenal about 2 years ago. He has been on pred and lupron for awhile now. A week ago Benny started to lose the use of his back legs then stopped urinating. We go him to the vets and she found a large mass. Benny was put on an aggressive dosage of pred, carafate and antibiotic to, hopefully, shrink the mass or even help with any possible cancer in his spinal cord. He started urinating again, but has not regained the use of his back legs, in fact that has gotten much worse. Where he used to drag them around and kind of use them as flippers, now he can't do that. And to top it off he is losing interest in eating. He has been on the upgraded dosage of pred since Monday (4th day into it). We are worried that it is not helping and he may be in pain. He does whimper sometimes when we pick him up to give him meds. The vet seems to think we should've seen some improvement in his motor skills by now.

Anyone been through this type of issue? How long has it taken other ferrets to respond to treatment (if at all). I'm sure you've all been through this before, as have we. It always seems impossible to decide when to let go. We know we must always do what is in the best interest of our little fuzzies, but sometimes it is hard to tell.
