Hi,

I'm really sorry about Benjamin.

Yes.

Ker Avon, a/k/a Mr. Cuddle Weasel, was a cute,
playful, affectionate five and a half year old ferret.
Then, one day, his back legs stopped working
completely. It turned out he had lymphosarcoma in his
spinal column.

The little guy still tried hard to please. He would
literally drag himself towards the litter pan to try
and avoid missing because he knew that was the right
thing to do. If you picked him up he gave kisses.
Unfortunately the paralysis crept upward and maybe
eight days later he was gasping for breath. I rushed
him to the vet who said he'd only live for hours no
matter what. The little guy clung to me for dear life
when I wanted to hand him to the vet. Our vet was
nearly in tears. He'd treated Avon since he was a ten
week old kit. Avon didn't want me to let him go but I
couldn't let him suffer.

This is the toughest thing about being a ferret owner.
If it really is lymphoma/lymphosarcoma and it's in
Benjamin's spinal column there is really almost no
chance of recovery.

I am not a vet. Please don't make this decision based
on my post but rather on what your heart tells you is
the right thing for Benjamin.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic five
