Subject: [ferrethealth] bilateral adrena, on fludrocortisone, losing hair again
To: "Ferret Health List" <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

Hi,
I hope someone can help with my questions...In December 2003 my (then 4 yr old) had a bilateral adrenalectomy. She crashed after the dexamethasone inj post-surgery wore off, and was put on prednisolone, but still did not begin to eat and was very lethargic. My vet then added daily Fludrocortisone. She slowly perked up and has been healthy ever since. She is still receiving both the pred and fludrocortisone.
I noticed the other day that her tail was beginning to bald again. Adrenal disease again, or can the medications cause this if her adrenal glands began to work again? Should I discontinue the medications? If it is adrenal disease again, would a melatonin implant possibly help?
She is so happy right now, I am afraid to stop the meds and have her crash again, but I want to do what's best for her. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give.
