Carol, I do not have a definitive answer for you, but I did have one
with cutaneous lymphoma that lived very closely with a friend for
years (they often slept cuddled up with each other), and the other
ferret never came down with it. I don't think the cutaneous form is
the type of lymphoma suspected to have some kind of viral role, but
then again, I don't think that the epidemiology of lymphoma in ferrets
is fully understood. Often ferrets with the cutaneous form of
lymphoma also have other forms of lymphoma as well.
Nana, my girl with cutaneous lymphoma, responded beautifully to
Isotretinoin (Accutane) and had perfectly normal skin after awhile on
the drug. She died from other causes.
