Subject: [ferrethealth] hypoglycemic bandito
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

My little bandit (aka bandito) was diagnosed with hypoglycemia today...he had a spell before where he lost use of his hind legs, would fall over and act "drunk". this happened again today and i was quite concerned so i took him to the vet-the only one in town with extensive knowledge of ferrets. his blood sugar was only 26 when i took him in-the doc told me it should be 70-110. the doc said it was possibly due to insulinoma since he was eating normal...however, i'm not completely sure of his eating because we had been out of town a couple of days and someone else was coming in to feed him. the doc put bandito on prednilisone twice daily and said to give him karo syrup also if he had an episode. if this is due to him not eating would we have to continue the meds or not? also, since i know many people have done the surgery for insulinoma, how much are the costs because i hate to not take care of him and do everything possible?
