Duke had hind end weakness that was very constant. His back end would
just give out on him, or he'd just look a bit wobbly in his rear end.
When I first noticed it, it was occasional, about once or twice a week.
But it quickly became obvious that it was more than him being clumsy on
their rooms newly tiled floor, when I started seeing it almost daily,
and even on carpeted areas.

He really didn't show any other symptoms as far as I could tell. No
seizures, drooling, spacing out, head bobbing or anything.

After he was put on the Pred, he began to walk normally again. He
seemed much stronger in his back legs, and I was not seeing him wobble
or loose his balance anymore. Along with his weakness this time, he has
lost weight.

To give you an update, we had our first visit with our new vet when she
saw Duke on Thursday for this. She was very thorough, taking an hour to
look over every detail of his health. She drew blood for a CBC and
Blood Chemistry. I didn't even have to ask her to. She felt that he
may have been misdiagnosed since his sugar was so high back in July, and
wanted to get a more thorough look at his overall health. She was
unable to get enough blood to do an in-house blood glucose test, but we
both agreed that the CBC and Chem would be even more helpful at this point.

She just left a message this morning to tell me that his results were
back, his blood sugar was a bit low (she didn't say what it was). He
hadn't even been fasted for this blood work, so that makes her
suspicious that Insulinoma is the cause. He hadn't had his Pred yet
that day, but since it stays in the body for some time, I would tend to
think his blood sugar might have been even lower if he weren't on it.
Would this make sense, do you think? Thankfully, this new vet is
extremely thorough and wants to see him back in about 2 weeks to do a
re-check, as well as possibly doing an insulin to glucose ratio test.
I'm don't know much about the ratio tests, or how accurate they are, but
hopefully it'll be helpful. In the meantime, she is increasing his
dosage of Pred from 1ml once per day to 1ml twice each day to see if it
helps him, and to help improve things for him if it is Insulinoma.

I'll be calling on Monday to see what his glucose was, and to get a copy
of the results, which I'll put up on my site to share with you.
