Pred's effect lasts about 9 hours according to a past vet we had, which appears to be why with some who have very hard to control insulinoma or other pancreatic tumors a three times per day schedule does well.
In the past we had one who also needed the insulin levels checked. That is done with some when at the current stage of illness it is difficult to know what is going on with the typical testing routine.
Your vet sounds on the ball.
