Our original vet, who had 35 years of experience
treating ferrets before he retired, and who pioneered
right adrenal surgery for ferrets (the vena cava
ligation technique) believed that if you leave in any
part at all of a diseases adrenal gland you also leave
the disease in there. He strongly advocated
completely removing any diseased adrenal glands.
None of the vets who have treated my ferrets would
have opted for debulking.

This is why many vets (indeed all the ones who have
seen my ferrets) believe prednisolone and florinef are
for life. You do recheck electrolytes periodically
and adjust if needed but we have never tried to wean a
ferret off these meds.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic five
