Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Taking kits away from mum at 2-3 weeks of age?
To: <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

I didn't know the context of Chris's comment so I wanted to make it known
that 6 weeks of age is not "normal " in the US and is something I have never
seen or even heard of. Many things may be able to be blamed on feeding
kibble here in the US but I don't think that age of eye opening is one of
them. Kits really do vary with individual developement even in perfectly
normal litters. I agree that eye opening is not a good gauge of age. I have
seen kits open eyes as early as a week of age ( this was normal opening, not
due to infection or trauma).Dentition can vary greatly as well but kits tend
to get in their teeth later than, rather than earlier than, the set norms if
anything. So at least with dentition it is harder to judge a kit older than
they really are :)
