Physiologically, I can't think of any tight reason why added light would work unless the problem was NOT adrenal but still of an endocrinological cause and I just can't think tightly of what the endocrinology pattern is (entirely possible since I have a lot to learn) though I have a shaky suggestion based on some menopausal sleep disturbance hypotheses. It is also possible that these are paradoxical responses. I batted around a few possible trains of thought but got nowhere with them.

One thing I DO know is that someone who had pushed the sunlight idea years ago was after her passing explained by someone who knew her more closely as really not keeping any kinds of notes or measurements, possibly confusing individuals for each other, and having other limitations to her assertions. I won't go into what was said; she is dead and gone and can't explain, and her life was not an easy one according the conversations she and i had. Let's just say that the concept needs actual measurements, observations of multiple ferrets, etc.

One thing I DID wonder about was this -- *IF* it is not a paradoxical response -- and it is possible but shaky, I think: it is already known that oral melatonin can become less effective over time in at least some individuals. May it be possible *in some individuals* that the normal pineal response to darkness is weakened when there is long melatonin exposure, or perhaps weakened in response to some feedback loops so that there is actually less melatonin produced by the pineal gland itself? Certainly, similar possibilities have been advanced among the hypotheses for sleep disturbance of some menopausal women (a problem dear to my heart, actually). I do NOT know if such hypotheses were since shot down or not in recent years. Might light exposure sort of "re-set" the pineal gland in those individuals, so that it functions more normally -- is essence actually allowing it to produce more melatonin on its own when darkness occurs again?

All, I can say is this: keep measurements.

For the benefits of melatonin -- which the body makes in response to darkness -- a lot of trustworthy studies already exist.
