Subject: [ferrethealth] Ear Infections
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

With the eardrums ruptured the pus/infection would be easier to
get a sample of and culture to find out the causative organism.
I would suspect ear mites or fungal more than a bacterial cause
like humans get. Human ear infections are more commonly
caused by bacteria or viral starting in the back of the throat
to the middle ear behind the ear drum. The common bacteria is strep
pneumoniae
and H. influenzae along with a few others. I doubt this would pass to
a ferret since many many ferret owners have children, notorious for
getting these infections when younger and hardly ever hear of a ferret
with an ear infection- let alone the child with an ear infection really
doesn't pass it along to the rest of the family. Children get them more
than adults due to
rates of exposure and anatomical differences making them more susceptible
to these infections.

Just my opinion.
