Subject: [ferrethealth] Rabies
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

1. Is it still true that, according to the Centers for Disease Control,
there has never been a single reported case in the United States of a ferret
transmitting rabies to a human being? 2. Is it possible to test a ferret for
rabies without killing it?
3. How many ferret rabies cases are reported each year?

This is in response to a ferret that I had been helping to take care of being
euthanized after biting a volunteer at our local animal shelter (I wasn't
there at the time, although had I been I would have protested vigorously....I
believe the law in my county leaves the decision up to the animal control officer
who responds to the situation).
