Subject: [ferrethealth] OTC diarrhea meds
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I have serached past posts on this topic and am more confused than ever. Some say pepto is bad because of the salicylates, others speak as though it has no higher incidence of negative reactions then any other commonly recommended med. My two on pred have chronic diarrhea, and I'd like to try something OTC before going to the vet. So---is pepto bad, and if so what other med is better? Kaopectate, immodium?

BTW, I don't know whether I gave the update, but it turns out Buddy has a pretty big tumor between his heart and ribcage. The vet said that if he just saw the x-ray, he'd give my guy days, maybe weeks. But as Buddy was alert, he estimated weeks, maybe a couple of months. It's been a month, and he's doing pretty well. He takes an occasional drop of metacam for breathing pain, and still explores an interacts with all.

One strange thing (I may repost this part later with its own heading, but for now I'm just wondering): When I hold him to give him soup, he seems obsessive about eating, and has gained quite a bit of weight. Is he just getting enjoyment out of life where he can, from food and bonding, or should I be worried? If he wasn't so close to dying already, I'd be worried that all that extra weight would cause health problems. As it is, I'm just hoping it's not a symptom of some new health problem.

Thanks in advance,
Clover
