Subject: [ferrethealth] When It Rains.......

It Pours!

We have another ferret in distress. He is an 9-10 year old sable male who started displaying symptoms of a prolapsed rectum.

He was rushed to the vet yesterday and after a brief exam the vet decided it was a prolapsed rectum, and told us to apply Preparation H, which we have been doing after he has a bowel movement, but......

For some reason he is retaining a lot of fluid in his abdomen and legs. Yesterday the right leg was extremely swollen, today it's his left.

Has anyone ever had this happen to any of their ferrets, if so, what course of treatment did you use to help elevate the fluid that is building up?

We will be taking him back to the vet in the morning to our regular vet as we feel that it is life threatening and don't want to lose him at all if possible.

Mary
