Subject: [ferrethealth] Ear Infections
To: <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

We had a ferret with the same thing about 6 months ago. It was a first for
us. A friend had her ferret come down with the same thing around 2-3 months
later ( no contact with our ferret). I have never seen anything like this
before and none of the other ferrets developed the problem. the one common
thread was undiagnosed earmites. The infections were middle ear and our vet
and ourselves feel the infection was secondary to the mite issue. None of
the other ferrets in the house had mites and the ferret with the infection
(lived by himself ) showed no signs of mites or any other issues previous to
the eardrum rupture. All the ferrets recovered fully with and intense
treatment protocol. All other ferrets in both homes were treated for mites
even though none showed any evidence of mites. No problems since that time.
