Subject: [ferrethealth] Advice needed please-right adrenal surgery
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I have a 5.5 yr old male ferret who has been adrenal for about 2.5 years now. His left was removed aabout 6 months after the symptoms started, but became adrenal again within 6 months. He has been on melatonin almost the whole time (implants for the last year) and lupron for the last year. He is also on propecia (for over a year now). Sadly, lupron and melatonin just don't seem to be working for him. He still has aggressive episodes towards my female (who is also on melatonin in case the aggression was because she was adrenal, has multiple bald spots, and is itchy. His muscles are also beginning to atrophy. As of now, I have an appointment with an experienced adrenal surgeon (who does the cyro surgery) for a consult this thurs am.

My reason for posting is to ask for peoples opinions on right adrenal surgeries. I never had the right surgery done based off of advice I was given by a certain group of people. I was told melatonin was the way to go. Surgery was just way too hard on them and that they didnt live any longer than without surgery because they fell ill to something else after, most likely from the stress of the surgery.

Here are my questions:
What are the ages of ferrets who have had right adrenal surgeries?
Type of surgery?
Success/mortality rate?

I am concerned that I will lose my ferret to surgery or shortly after...and have been told letting him live out his life as he is now would be better than going through surgery. I am so confused...please help. I just want him to be happy and live out his life well.
