Subject: [ferrethealth] your last chance to comment in the drive to improve APHIS standards for ferrets

Today, 11/18, is the last day to submit comments to the Animal and
Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the USDA to request ferret-
specific standards, including a minimum shipping age of 8 weeks and
better shipping standards.
As the work winds down it would be useful if those who have cared for
such kits, veterinarians, shelters, pet store people who would prefer
having the health and strength of arriving ferrets improved, etc.
would leave their messages telling about those ferrets to help end by
emphasizing these needs.
This is an opportunity like few others, a chance to help ferrets all
over the United States with just one letter on your part.
Because of the length of time it sometimes takes for letters
(especially physical ones -- which would have to carry a postmark no
later than today) and even for e-mail submissions during busy times
to appear there may be other submitted comments that will not show up
for as long as a week past today's deadline.
If you have been waiting to be among those speaking near the end;
today is it. Do not wait a moment longer, please.
To view and submit comments online:
Go to http://www.regulations.gov/
Under the Agency popup menu, select Animal and Plant Health
Inspection Service.
In the Keyword box, enter ferret.
Click Submit.
This will bring up a list including the original Docket
APHIS-2005-0063. Click on the Docket ID in the first column to see
the current list of comments. The last column contains an Add
Comments button, which will bring up the comment submission form.
You may also submit as attachments to your note documents in MS Word,
Word Perfect or other formats.
For letters that are going from the USPS, please, consider sending by
a special option such as priority mail with a signed receipt, or
something else which emphasizes that the postmark is not after today.
To submit comments by mail, send 4 copies of your letter to:
