Just a reminder - do not just routinely start giving Ivermectin (or any other
preventative) for heartworm. You will kill the microfilaria, but causing them to die in
mass numbers in the bloodstream will cause shock, and possibly kill the animal.
When my dog, Buddy, was diagnosed with heartworm, my vet used a controlled
arsenic therapy.

Check with a vet before treating any animal for heartworm.

:I would automatically begin heartworm treatments for any ferret rescued from
anywhere in the deep

:extreme prevalence of heartworm within the canine population that I
:observed.
