Subject: [ferrethealth] post op baby needs help
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
wednesday my ferret had exploratory surgury. Symptoms prior to surgury were runny seedy stools, that sometimes had the green slimys mixed in, and a lot of grinding of the teeth. We had gone through the helicobacter treatment plus antibiotics and carafate and it did not help. So as a last resort my vet suggested the surgury. Well it was a blessing because my little one had two large hairballs. First day post op his stools were surprisingly formed although the color was rather orange. Second day, stools were less formed and were brown (but no blood was seen)Saturday, day 3 the stools were runny and seedy like prior to surgury and he was grinding his teeth more than before. She gave me some pain meds and said to watch him. Today we are back to liguid stools and I have to coax him to eat. I feel he is not doing better and I am concerned what to do . He is on carafate.9ml x 8hrs / and enroflaxacin 6.8mg BID. The pain med was buprenex .03ml. My vet is not a ferret specialist but has been working with mine for the last year. She is open to any info. All blood work prior to surgury was in the norms. Any advice or suggestions?
