We have had many ferrets with this surgery but ALWAYS the ferrets come
home with carafate suspension as a protective coating to be administered 15
mins prior to feedings. The cut in the stomach wall necessary to remove
the hairballs will get irritated by the stomach acids necessary to digest
foods. Consult your vet about getting both carafate suspension and perhaps
some amoxy as likely there may be ulcers forming from stress of surgery and
the acidic action on the gut wall.
