Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Post-op baby needs help
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Hi cakelady,
Alicia is making a good point. Surgery to
remove a hairball from the stomach is similar
to having a stomach ulcer. I would suggest using
the Carafate liquid, 1ml about 10 to 15 minutes before
you feed him 4+ times a day. An antacid like Tagamet
(10mg/kg, 3 times a day, for a few days) may also be useful.
Amoxidrops along with the Baytril (enrofloxacin) would be a
good option too. In addition I would use a bland diet such as
Hill's a/d, 2nd stage baby food (Chicken or Turkey), or Oxbow's
Carnivore Care for ~7 days, then slowly change back to his
regular dry food.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
