The problem with raw egg albumen is more than fur loss; it can cause a biotin deficiency. That info, too, is in the FHL Archives. (Got to love 4 years of feedback, esp. that from the experts; so much winds up being in there.) The FHL Archives can still be reached by using the old address for it but
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/
is the new direct URL.

As for raw yolks: read the vet responses referred to in this conversation. It is a matter of weighing two things against each other and choosing. The first is that ferrets tend to be rather resistant to salmonella infection. The second is that when they do get it this is a very bad and very hard to treat infection in them. The only vet response where a vet said to go ahead with giving that was a terribly ill ferret who would take nothing else but had a chance if the ferret would just eat. The rest said that they consider egg yolk a very good treat once it is cooked because of the severity of the infection (and that includes the vet who said for that one sick one that they may as give it in that specific situation).

So, just note the aspects and weigh them, then make your own choice. Some go one way because the infection is not terribly common. Some go the other because of how severe and dangerous it is when it does occur.
