As Sukie said, bloodwork isn't a definitive diagnosis of lymphoma. In fact, sometimes elevated lymphocyte counts are presented as evidence of lympho, whereas this can be due to other things.

And also like Sukie, we've had ultrasound guided fine needle aspirates done on suspect spleens. You don't necessarily have to perform surgery and take a tissue sample. I would do this as a first step if lymphoma is suspected before I'd ever do it surgically.
