Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Enlarged Prostate - Question
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

The dosage is 1mg once a day for 30 days, then 0.1 mg once a day for life. If you get propecia from the pharmacy, it comes in a 1mg tablet (don't get proscar, which is the same med, but a 5 mg dose). When giving the 1mg dose, i just crushed it and mixed it with turkey baby food and ferretone. For the 0.1mg dose, I crush 2 tablets and mix with 20 mL of ferretone and store it. The pill does not dissolve in this, so you have to mix really well before giving. I give 1 ml once a day with the chicken baby food then. The cost for 14 pills is about 30$, so it is a bit expensive in the beginning, but when you go down to the 0.1 mg dose, the price isn't so bad.

I have a 5yr old adrenal male that has been on it for over a year now, after having a partial urinary blockage due to prostate issues from adrenal disease. He has been doing great since started on the propecia. (He is also on Lupron 500mcg and melatonin implants)

Good luck!

His prostate is very enlarged and the shelter vet has him on Cipro for the infection, etc. He has his melatonin implant and just today he had a lupron shot (not sure yet of the dosage). I've searched the archives and found out about Propecia for enlarged prostates (I remembered reading that before). Is there anything else that can be recommended and what type of dosage would it be?? This is a sweet boy and the shelter Mom is doing everything possible to help.
